Not Sure About Your HVAC Quote? Get a Free Second Opinion

Got a HVAC Quote That Doesn't Feel Right? Let's Take a Look.

A new furnace or AC is one of the biggest purchases you’ll make for your home. If you’re sitting on a quote with a funny feeling in your gut, it’s smart to double-check, not rude.

At Precision Climate Control, we’ll review your quote, look at your system, and give you an honest opinion. If the other company’s quote is fair, we’ll tell you that too. It’s free, and there’s no pressure.

Why Get a Second Opinion?

Is the system the right size? A furnace or AC that’s too big or too small won’t keep your home comfortable, costs more to run, and wears out sooner. The right size comes from a quick load calculation of your home (called a Manual J), not from matching the label on your old unit.

Do you really need a new system? More often than you’d think, “you need a whole new unit” turns out to be a repair. It’s worth knowing the truth before you spend thousands.

Is the price fair? HVAC pricing can vary a lot from company to company. A second quote gives you something real to compare against.

Will you feel good about it in 10 years? Your system will likely be with you for 15 years or more. A little homework now saves a lot of regret later.

Red Flags to Watch on an HVAC Quote

Most HVAC companies are honest. But if you run into any of these, it’s a good time to get a second opinion:

“This price is only good today.” A fair price shouldn’t disappear when the truck leaves your driveway.

The price drops the moment you hesitate. If they can knock off $2,000 on the spot, what was the first number based on? A sneaky sales tactic is you are given an inflated price in order to generate the how am I going to afford that emotion, then quickly they tell you that they can knock a large sum off if you act today, to give you the appearance of a great deal.

No written, itemized quote. You should see the brand, model number, and efficiency rating (SEER2 for AC, AFUE for furnaces), not just one big total. You should always research the brand being offered. A lot of lower end manufacturers allow companies to put whatever name they want on their equipment. They can then promote this equipment as higher end, and you end up paying the high-end price for the low-end equipment.

They quoted a system without measuring your home. Proper sizing looks at the whole house: square footage, insulation, windows, and ductwork.

“It’s dangerous, you need a new one right now,” with no proof. Safety issues are real, so ask them to show you the problem with a photo of your actual equipment, not one saved from another job on their phone, reading, or the actual part.

A big payment upfront, or cash only. Be cautious about paying in full before any work is done.

No proof of license or insurance, or “you don’t need a permit.” A legitimate company won’t hesitate to show you.

Fuzzy answers about the warranty. You should know what’s covered (parts, labor, or both), how long, and whether it needs to be registered. A 10-year parts only warranty can still cost you several hundred to over $1,000 for 1 repair.

Financing was pushed before the price was clear. Know the total cost first, then talk about payment options. Don’t be sold based solely on monthly payment. Know the terms, do the math or use an online calculator to see what you are really paying at the end of the term.
